On 12 May 2026, the NIAGARA project will host the webinar “Teaching the Energy Transition: Bringing circular bio-based energy innovations from EU projects into the classroom.” This online event will bring together experts from leading EU-funded projects to explore how cutting-edge research can support education and skills development for the green transition.
Bridging Research and Education
As Europe advances towards a sustainable energy future, innovative solutions such as advanced biofuels, waste-based energy systems, and circular bio-based technologies are gaining momentum. However, their successful deployment depends not only on technological progress, but also on societal understanding and acceptance.
The NIAGARA project adopts an interdisciplinary approach that combines technological innovation with Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) principles and social acceptability. Building on this perspective, the webinar will examine how research results can be transformed into education-ready knowledge, enabling educators to integrate emerging energy topics into technical and academic curricula.
Showcasing EU Project Contributions
The session will feature contributions from three Horizon Europe projects—NIAGARA, ICARUS, and FUELGAE—all members of the SustaFuels Cluster. Together, they will present practical examples of how research outcomes can be translated into learning content, highlighting:
- Circular bio-based energy systems and advanced biofuels
- Sustainability assessment and environmental considerations
- Societal dimensions of energy technologies
- Approaches to engaging students with real-world innovation

Agenda Overview
The webinar will run from 10:30 to 12:00 CET and will include:
- Introduction and framing of the discussion
- Insights on education as a tool for improving social acceptance of new technologies
- Project showcases from NIAGARA, ICARUS, and FUELGAE
- Roundtable discussion and audience interaction
- Key takeaways and next steps
This event is designed for educators, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders interested in the intersection of energy innovation, education, and societal engagement.
